Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is an independent special district that provides sustainable, accessible, community-focused transportation options that are innovative, environmentally responsible, and promote the vitality of the Silicon Valley region. VTA provides bus, light rail, and paratransit services, as well as participates as a funding partner in regional rail service, including Caltrain, Capital Corridor, and the Altamont Corridor Express.

The Position

The VTA is looking for a dynamic, results-oriented individual to manage and direct the activities of the bus and rail operations, including all regular transit and paratransit services. The VTA seeks a leader with strong management skills and experience fostering positive working relationships among staff, union representatives, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transit system operations. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for directing the programs and functions of Bus and Light Rail Transportation, Operations Control Center, Field Supervision, and Operations Training.

Requirements

Experience: Extensive and progressively responsible experience in public transit operations, including transportation service planning, fleet management, and labor relations. Must have at least five (5) years of supervisory and management level experience.

Training: Completion of four (4) years of college with a degree in Business Administration/ Management, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
