The Area:
Alameda County is the geographic center of the San Francisco Bay Area, located across the Bay from the San Francisco peninsula, which stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge south to Silicon Valley. Alameda County encompasses 813 square miles of land and has a population in excess of 1.5 million people, making it the second most populated county in the Bay Area after Santa Clara County. The County is bounded on the west by the San Francisco Bay. The crest of the East Bay Hills forms part of the northeastern boundary and reaches into the center of the County.
The Organization:
The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) held its first Board meeting on July 22, 2010, implementing the first stages of the merger of the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency (ACCMA) and the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA). This merger allows for better coordination of transportation planning and programming within the County, as well as positions Alameda County jurisdictions and transit agencies to better compete for limited state and federal transportation dollars.
The Position:
Alameda CTC is looking for a motivated, highly specialized individual to serve as the lead transportation planner of locally funded programs (sales tax revenues and vehicle registration fees), including pass-through programs. The Senior Transportation Planner will manage, coordinate, and facilitate the development and administration of funding distribution, programming policies and procedures, grants guidelines, evaluation criteria, selection, monitoring and control processes; and provides professional assistance to the executive team in areas of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in regional or urban planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, business or public administration, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation and/or transit planning or professional experience in planning, zoning and related activities.
