Laboratory Analyst

 

 

THE AGENCY

CMSA operates the largest wastewater treatment facility in Marin County. CMSA strives to be a high performance utility, with a vision of being an industry leader, providing efficient wastewater services while remaining fully compliant with regulations, in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.  The CMSA Laboratory is an ELAP certified laboratory in the process of implementing the forthcoming Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) standards.  Our laboratory is certified for several analyses including Total & Fecal Coliform, Enterococci, Alkalinity, Hardness, TSS, Ammonia, cBOD and BOD, Acute Toxicity and various others.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Lab Analyst will partake in Central Marin Sanitation Agency’s Environmental Laboratory program. Responsibilities include obtaining samples and performing standard physical, chemical, biological, and bacteriological tests for process control and regulatory permit adherence.  The incumbent shall have a working knowledge of various aspects of analytical and environmental laboratory techniques.  These techniques include operation of analytical laboratory equipment, troubleshooting, review and implementation of corrective actions, interpretation of technical instructions, development of laboratory standard operating procedures, prioritization of work assignments and participation in laboratory assessment procedures.  The position also requires frequent interaction with others (co-workers, supervisors, vendors, members of the professional organizations) in a professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year ABET-accredited college or university with major coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental studies, bacteriology, microbiology or a similar science.   One year of experience in any combination of the following: a laboratory technician/analyst in a wastewater or water treatment facility or analytical laboratory, or other related experience applicable to this position.  Possession of a Grade I certificate as an Environmental Laboratory Analyst issued by the California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) is preferred.
